There is no one “Perfect Body Shape”. In each culture, time period and trend, the “Ideal” body shape varies. In addition, each individual body shape is a function of genetics, nutrition and lifestyle.
4 main types of body shapes for women:
Banana or straight (rectangular)
With Banana or straight shaped figures, the waist measurement is less than 9 inches smaller than the hips or bust measurement. The body has higher levels of andogen vs. estrogen which causes a more “masculine” skeleton. The overall fat distribution is even – predominately in the abdomen, buttocks, chest and face- creating a straight shape.
Apple (triangle downward)
The apple shape refers to women who have broader shoulders and narrower hips. Women with apple shaped body types typically have higher levels of androgen which causes the skeleton to develop in a very masculine pattern. Fat is mainly distributed in the face, chest and abdomen and the women have slim legs/thighs while the chest and abdomen look out of proportion relative to the rest of the body.
Pear or spoon or bell (triangle upward)
With pear or soon/bells shaped figures, the hip measurement is significantly greater than the bust measurement. Fat tends to accumulate first in the buttocks, hips and thighs. As body fat percentage increases, the fat accumulates around the upper abdomen and waist. Women with pear shaped bodies then to have larger rears, robust thighs and a small(er) bosom.
Hourglass shape. (triangles opposing, facing in)
In hourglass figures, the hip and bust are almost of equal size with a narrow waist. The distribution of body fat tends to be around the lower and upper body. Fat tends to accumulate in the arms, chest, hips and rear and later around the waist and upper abdomen.
Despite the emphasis by the media on the ‘Perfect Body Shape’, it is important to reference real women and their body shape. A study conducted in 2005 by the North Carolina State University reveled that out of 6,000 women, 46% were banana (rectangular), just over 20% pear, just under 14% apple, and 8% hourglass. Another study has found “that the average woman’s waistline had expanded by six inches since the 1950s” and that today women are taller and have bigger busts and hips than those of the 1950s.
Today’s women place more and more emphasis on reducing weight in the waist and abdomen. New technologies arisen to answer this desire, including the innovative TriPollar Treatments , which uses Radio Frequency energy in order to reduce the size of the fat cells under the skin.

TriPollar POSE on GMTV
TriPollar POSE and TriPollar STOP periodically get TV spots and for some reason a lot of the shows are hesitant to allow us to post the clip online. So I was thrilled when GMTV gave us permission to post this short clip of TriPollar POSE.
The interviewer, Lorianne, is having a discussion about tools and solutions for quick fixes this summer. TriPollar POSE was listed as the most expensive, but it was also mentioned that it is the most expensive option because of its clinical and scientific background. Unfortunately we didn’t get the whole clip, only what is posted here.
